Welcome

About Me!

Hello! My name is Sofia Schnabel and welcome to my AP Biology blog for the 2019-2020 school year. To learn more about me watch the short video below.

My Website Experience

This year in AP Biology has had its ups and downs, and especially many tech gremlins. Creating this website was a new and interesting experience for me because this was my first time creating my own website outside of google sites. I have had a more positive experience using WordPress than I thought I would especially for this being my first real website out of google sites. I do actually recommend this over good sites because personally, I feel like my WordPress looks a lot more professional and I am able to be a lot more creative with it.

Initially with my website, I struggled to make sure that everything was set up and running, but I always had the support of my teammates whenever I asked for help. It was especially annoying when learning the difference between pages and posts and then having to copy and paste my work in order to have my website functioning correctly. After fixing everything and understanding how to properly add posts and do drop-down menus, it was satisfying to see how the website came together. Although we had to push through many tech gremlins throughout the year, I am proud of the outcome of my website. I really enjoyed using this website because it allows people to see all the work I have done throughout my AP Bio experience. Overall, I recommend using a website similar to this if you want to share all your achievements over the year.

Dear Future AP Bio

It’s been almost an entire year since my about me video was made. Now at the end of second semester, I have made a video for future AP bio students that will hopefully give them tips and tricks to succeed in AP Bio.

  1. Sofia – it was such fun being your formal commentator this semester! I enjoyed seeing your thought process and re-learning this exciting information (it’s been awhile since college). All your information was presented very thoroughly all semester. I hope you had as much fun making this site as I did reading it!

  2. The web site is really good. I found several of the investigations very interesting. I found the Back to Plastic Future video to be very compelling. I was also stunned to see DNA extracted from a strawberry (produced with the help of two of my former math students). The website is easy to navigate and is a great way to get a synopsis of the AP Bio curriculum. It’s clear from looking at the web site that you have thoroughly enjoyed AP Bio — your introductory videos provide good context and will be valuable for next year’s students. You have also shown good technological skills. The web site – and the work (videos, graphic organizers etc.) contained on the web site — could be included as work samples if you were to seek employment or internship in the science field.

Thanks you for letting me view your web site.

  3. Sofia, it’s easy to see how much you love science, and this website is a true testament to that. I love how you were able to share everything you’ve learned in AP bio, as well as personal stories about your life and your experiences. Thank you for sharing!

  4. This site is really well put together. The information is interesting and understandable, and it gives me a really good overview of the course. As a future AP Bio student, it is very intriguing and makes me even more excited to take this class next year. The video to future AP bio students was very helpful and interesting, and i will make sure to implement all of your advice next year!!

  5. Sofia, I love that you added travels/photos as your choice. It gives your readers a chance to experience how you see the world. The collage presentation is very engaging and beautiful too. I know how frustrating it was to learn about posts and pages. The feedback from this team reminds me that I will need to find a way to help the new team learn this from the beginning. If you have an idea or resource that was helpful to you, please send it my way! Your site is so professional looking. I am quite impressed by how you defeated every tech gremlin! You have created an informative and engaging site and I hope you are as proud of this work as I am! Thank you for being such an invaluable team member! I’m looking forward to keeping in touch next year and writing your recommendation letters. The college application process can be daunting, but it is also exciting to know that this time next year you will have decided where you will be headed next after NDB. Until then, enjoy officially being a senior and have an awesome summer!
